Soccer Finishing Game # 3 Training Drill

Basic Information

Age Group: (8-11yrs) (12-15yrs) (16-Adult)

Difficulty: Medium-Hard

Emphasis: Finishing, Passing, Attacking, Defending

Field Preparation:

• 2 teams
• 1 goal with goalie
• cones to mark off area
• pinnies

Description:

• play 5v4
• the attacking team with 5 players attacks the goal with goalkeeper
• the defending team with 4 players attempts to pass to the target
• passes cannot be above head level
• switch roles after 5-10 minutes

Variation:

• play 5v3, 6v5, 6v4 etc.
• the attacking team must connect 4 passes before they can score
• the defending team switches roles with attacking team if they complete a pass to the target
• limit number of touches for attacking team
• adjust spacing depending on the age and ability of the group

Attacking:

• unbalancing the defense
• create space for others
• attack space behind defense
• angle, distance and timing of support
• vision
• decision making
• verbal and visual communication

Defending:

• positioning to provide cover and balance
• intercepting pass
• defending vital space (squeeze toward center)
• defending space behind
• tracking players
