Here is an activity that works on speed dribbling and also getting the ball under control after dribbling with speed. Modify the drill if needed.

Basic Information

Age Group: (5-7yrs) (8-11yrs) (12-15yrs) (16-Adult)
Number of Players: 4-10
Difficulty: Easy-Medium
Time: 10-15 min.
Emphasis:Dribbling, Attacking, Defending

Field Preparation:

  • 2 teams
  • grid (30yds x 30yds)
  • cones to mark off area
  • cone goals (3-5yds)
  • pinnies


  • play 4v4, 5v5 etc.
  • players score by dribbling through a cone goal
  • once a cone goal has been dribbled through it cannot be scored on the next round (goals only count
  • on other three goals)


  • add a neutral player
  • minimum of 3 touches
  • adjust spacing depending on the age and ability of the group if necessary

  • change of speed & direction
  • protect the ball

  • close control
  • quality of preparation touch
  • switch point of attack
  • angle, distance and timing of support
  • verbal and visual communication
