Ball control looks easy, however competence requires practice, a lot more practice compared to every other skill. Coaches suggest practising ball control probably the most. Basic Information

Age Group: (5-7yrs) (8-11yrs) (12-15yrs)
Number of Players: 8+
Difficulty: Easy
Time: 5-10 min.
Emphasis: Dribbling

Field Preparation:

  • each player with a ball
  • 3 grids as shown
  • cones to mark off area

Description:

  • on coach’s command (verbal or nonverbal) players dribble into assigned grid
  • in each grid players perform a pre-assigned task (juggling, practice a specific move, play tag games
  • like “Everybody Is It” or “Knee Tag” etc.)

Variation:

  • one group in each grid who rotate on coach’s command
  • add a fourth grid
  • adjust spacing depending on the age and ability of the group if necessary
