Possession is definitely a strategic matter as it focuses on individual as well as team decision making regarding where you can pass the ball to ease the pressure on the ball. Possession soccer drills rely on individual technique for passing, receiving, turning the ball to produce room and time for decision-making, and the skill to execute 1 and 2 touch soccer under pressure.

Basic Information

Field Preparation:
- 3 teams
- grid (30yds x 40yds)
- cones to mark off area
- 2 end zones 3-5 yards deep
- pinnies
Description:
- play 4v4 with target players in each end zone and wall players along side line
- teams score by passing into end zone to a target player who must connect to another player of the team that had possession
- all players must be in one half
- players cannot enter the other half until the ball does (dribble or pass)
- if defending team wins possession they score in that half before crossing over
Variation:
- play 3v3, 5v5 etc.
- attacking team must enter other half with a pass
- adjust spacing depending on the age and ability of the group
