Zone Keep Away # 5
This is an effective passing keep away drill for younger players that aids them to decide fast and move the ball a lot quicker. It’s really an essential drill which has every single player taking part with the key focus for team passing and possession.

Basic Information
Age Group: (5-7yrs)(8-11yrs) (12-15yrs) (16-Adult)
Number of Players: 9+
Difficulty: Medium-Hard
Time: 15-20 min.
Emphasis: Passing, Possession
Field Preparation:
- 2 teams
- grid (20yds x 35yds)
- cones to mark off area
- middle zone 3-4 yards deep
- pinnies
Description:
- both teams have 2 players in one zone and 3 players in the other
- all players must stay in their designated area
- the team with three players in a zone plays keep away from the two defenders by utilizing a neutral in the middle zone (4v2)
- if the two defenders win the ball they try to play it to the neutral player who turns and passes the ball to a blue player on the other side of the central zone where three “attackers” again try to keep possession by utilizing the neutral player (4v2)
Variation:
- play 4v2, 3v1 etc.
- limit number of touches for attackers
- adjust spacing depending on the age and ability of the group

- good first touch takes ball away from pressure
