The Olympic Games are upon us!! It’s so exciting to see the Olympians compete and watch them with my kids. My older daughter loves to sit and watch all the different sports (she has even been taking her ballet a lot more seriously! 😉 ) So, I thought it would be fun to have a themed treat for when we root for Team USA! I’m definitely not a skilled pastry designer so it needed to be SIMPLE…here’s what I came up with: Olympic Games Cupcakes
I bought a box of Froot Loops (generic works just fine, too) and chocolate Cheerios (they are new: whoot, whoot!).
I separated out the red, blue, green and yellow pieces from the Froot Loops and the dark chocolate Cheerios.
I didn’t even make the cupcakes, I just got a few from the store with vanilla icing. We only needed a few and I didn’t need extra cupcakes laying around begging to be eaten!
The colors should be laid out like the above picture with the blue, chocolate and red on the top row and the yellow and green below. I gently pressed the loops into the icing and slightly overlapped the bottom row. Honestly they are cute just like this, but if you want to add a little something extra you can make torches out of Buggles, white chocolate (aka, Almond Bark Vanilla Flavored Coating) and red food coloring.
I warmed a piece of the Almond Bark slowly in the microwave, stirring it every 15-30 seconds. Once it was completely melted, I added red food coloring. The food coloring changes the consistency slightly.
Then I pressed it down onto wax paper and “scooped” it up with the Buggle, leaving a mount coming out. I just shaped a flame with my fingers.
Didn’t they come out cute!?! The girl’s loved them…WIN for Mom! 😉
